The $1 Million Email That Never Got a Reply

I sent emails to L'Oréal, Unilever, Estée Lauder. Every major cosmetic brand I could find. My pitch was simple: I had bee venom, they needed ingredients, let's do business.

I clicked send and waited for the million-dollar contract.

Nothing happened. No replies. No interest.

These companies have established supply chains and approved vendor lists. Their procurement processes take months to navigate. Cold emails from unknown suppliers don't enter that system.

The Wake-Up Call

A smaller company responded. They were interested. We had actual conversations.

Then they asked: "Can you send us your analysis documentation?"

Certificate of Analysis. Safety Data Sheet. Technical specifications. Production flow chart.

I had none of it.

I explained that my bee venom was high quality, that I'd been producing it carefully. Their interest disappeared.

"We can't use ingredients without proper documentation," they said. "We have regulations to follow."

I was asking companies to put an undocumented ingredient into products they'd sell to customers. Without documentation, they couldn't verify what they were buying or ensure it met their requirements.

Volvo or Ferrari?

Ferrari vs Volvo comparison

Imagine buying a car with no registration, no service history, no proof of origin. Is it a Volvo or a Ferrari? When was it built? What's actually under the hood?

You wouldn't buy it. Neither would any professional buyer.

Documentation transforms your product from "some substance from bees" into a defined, verifiable ingredient that companies can evaluate and use.

What cosmetic manufacturers require:

  • Certificate of Analysis (CoA) - Laboratory results showing composition, purity, and quality parameters
  • Safety Data Sheet (SDS) - Hazard classification, handling requirements, emergency information
  • Technical Specification Sheet - Detailed product specifications for formulation work
  • Production Documentation - Process description showing controlled, repeatable production

This isn't bureaucracy. It's how the industry operates. Cosmetic companies answer to regulators, customers, and their own quality standards. They need to verify every ingredient they use.

Once I had documentation, conversations changed completely. Instead of explaining what bee venom was, I was discussing specifications and supply terms with buyers who already understood the ingredient.

The documentation made me a credible supplier. It showed I understood the industry's requirements and could meet them.
